Monsoon-Resilient Roofing Systems

Kerala monsoons present structural challenges, including heavy rain load, high winds, and moss accumulation. KeralaDeco utilizes reinforced framing layers to protect buildings from leaks.

Framing & Structural Layout

  • Steel Trusses: We construct roof trusses using structural hollow steel sections (SHS) treated with epoxy rust-preventative primer coatings.
  • Roof Pitch: Slopes must range between 30 to 45 degrees to prevent standing water pools.

Moisture & Leak Protection

We recommend a three-layer shielding system:

  1. Concrete Decking: An RCC structural slope slab acting as the primary boundary layer.
  2. Waterproof Membrane: Self-adhesive SBS modified bitumen sheet applied across the entire concrete slab.
  3. Roofing Tiles: Baked terracotta clay tiles or cement composite shingles, secured using stainless steel clips to withstand high winds.

Thermal Insulation

We leave a 50mm air gap between the concrete deck and the clay tiles. This air cavity acts as natural insulation, reducing interior roof heat by up to 5°C.
